Social Security Works: Trump will destroy Social Security if re-elected
Stephen C. Goss, Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration recently published a letter in response to an inquiry from Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) following Donald Trump’s statement that he would terminate SSA funding if re-elected.
The verdict: Social Security would be destroyed by another four years of Trump.
Nancy Altman of Social Security Works released a statement in response to the letter discussing the upsetting findings. According to Altman, Goss’s letter states that before the end of a possible second Trump term, Social Security would cease to exist as we know it.
Trump claims to have the ability to eradicate Social Security without any oversight or approval from Congress, a troubling precedent given his authoritarian tendencies and willingness to undermine the post office, free speech and several other institutions.
Altman cites several recent polls showing that Americans largely oppose any proposals to defund Social Security.
