When will I receive my Social Security disability payment?

Below is the 2020 schedule of payments for Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, showing what date you will receive your direct deposit or check each month. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)

As you can see, your pay date depends on whether you are receiving SSDI, SSI, or both.

If you are receiving only SSDI (or retirement benefits, spousal benefits or another type of Social Security benefits) then you will receive your payment on one of three Wednesdays during the month, depending on your birthdate or the birthdate of the person on whose record you are receiving benefits. If the birthdate is on the 1st through the 10th of the month, you will receive your payment on the second Wednesday of each month; if the birthdate is on the 11th through the 20th, you will receive your payment on the third Wednesday of each month; and if the birthdate is on the 21st through the 31st, you will receive your payment on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

If you are receiving SSI only, then you will receive your payment on the 1st of each month.

If you are receiving both SSI and SSDI — or SSI and another type of Social Security benefits — then you will receive your payment on the 3rd of each month. Beneficiaries receiving benefits before May 1997 also receive payments on the 3rd of each month.

When the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the business day before the weekend or holiday.
