Practicing Law in the Sharing Economy

Practicing Law in the Sharing EconomyI am a contributor to a recently published book, Practicing Law in the Sharing Economy: Helping People Build Cooperatives, Social Enterprise, and Local Sustainable Economies. Janelle Orsi of the Sustainable Economies Law Center is the author, and I contributed a short section on law collectives.

The book is an excellent guide to what I call cooperative economics: organizing economic activity in a way that supports cooperation and the common good above the profit motive. The book discusses structures like worker-owned businesses, nonprofit organizations, credit unions and cooperatives, and projects such as community currencies, cohousing, and copyright sharing.

The Sustainable Economies Law Center helps people create such alternatives. The book is published by the American Bar Association, and all proceeds go to the nonprofit SELC. You can purchase the book here.
